Makeready was focused on fostering strong connections between letterpress educators from a range of institutions and practices in studio art, book arts, printing, history, and design. This event was an opportunity to engage and share scholarly research and teaching while promoting the value of letterpress within the context of our institutions. Our common thread is a mission to carry letterpress forward into a new era.

Makeready 2020 was an online event

Building on the enthusiasm and momentum of the previous two, small symposia at Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum (2018) and Globe Collection and Press at MICA (2019), a virtual platform allowed us to expand the symposium and make it more accessible. This event was opportunity to increase connection and support among letterpress educators through remote sharing, teaching, and learning.

The event was held 20–24 July and included daily live 45-minute sessions between 10am–2pm Eastern Time (U.S./Canada). Taking into consideration everyone’s capacity for online engagement, each four-hour day included multiple 15-minute breaks. Additional time for continued conversation was provided at the beginning and end of each day.
