The objective of my presentation is to showcase my letterpress work, and hopefully explain a little bit about my journey with letterpress and why I think it’s an important art to keep alive. I will be showcasing 2 pieces of my letterpress work, along with 2 photos from Printers Camp with the Globe Collection at MICA from 2019. Firstly, I will talk about how internet culture has inspired my first letterpress piece (Internet Love, 2019).

Secondly, I will talk about my second piece (Untitled, 2019) which is an abstracted piece that shows how I would visually organize information if I were printing a Broadside - speaking a bit on how I was also taking an abstracted position and doing something different than my classmates.

Thirdly, I will show a picture from Printers’ Camp 2019 with Amos Kennedy and my printing group. I will talk about how this experience was something I’ve never thought of ever doing and how I was very hesitant at first to apply because I had only taken one letterpress class. Lastly, I will be showing a picture that shows a wall of our prints we created in collaboration with Amos Kennedy, talking about how important letterpress is.

Simone Riley is currently studying Graphic Design at Northeastern Illinois University. She was chosen in 2019 to attend Printers’ Camp at MICA with the Globe Collection after taking a letterpress class and loving it. Ever since then, she’s attended a handful of printing events in the Chicago area and continues to work to expand her printing knowledge and skill.
